MINISTER - Rev'd Richard Matcham
Family: My name is Richard and I have been married to Rachael for 27 years. I am father to three brilliant young adults, Andrew, Abigail and Samuel, and grandfather to Faye (5). The whole family are owned by our Golden Retriever, Lucy, whom we serve daily with walks and food. Having completed a Masters in Theology at Bristol Baptist College, I have been accepted the call to be the minister at Barton Baptist Church in September 2010.
Background: I worked ten years in retail management, followed by seven years working in Biblical Studies as a missionary for an international mission organisation, nearly three of which were spent living in Cairo, Egypt. This incredible calling enabled me to travel, and so far I have been privileged to experience Zimbabwe, Ghana, Egypt, Sweden, Germany, Lebanon, Israel & Palestine (including the West Bank), and recently, a Barton Baptist Church mission trip to Cambodia (details on this website).
Ministry: As part of my ministerial reach, I occasionally contribute to a live BBC Radio Devon programme; I also occasionally teach on the 'School of Biblical Studies' to missionaries at the Youth With A Mission training base in Nuneaton; I compliment this by being an 'on-line' tutor to a couple of Bible students somewhere in the world. And finally, I have recently begun teaching several modules of the SYWM (South West Youth Ministries) curriculum, including Doctrine, Interpretation, Bible Overview, Canon of Scripture and Gospels.
I like good books, beer, company and comedy. I love film and fire, food and friends, fun and football. But most of all, I love to discover the glorious God revealed in Jesus Christ. If you want to join us on the journey at Barton, you are most welcome.
